Claire Feng was born in Suzhou, China, and spent her childhood in the tumultuous era of the Chinese Culture Revolution (1966-1976). Later as a young adult she learned French and studied French literature in college. In 1990 with a French Government’s scholarship she moved to France to pursue her studies. After working several years in a French company she decided to be a full-time painter. In 2006 she obtained the Bachelor of Fine Arts degree at the School of La Cambre in Brussels and in 2010 the Master of Fine Arts degree at the American University in Washington DC. Her work has been exhibited in numerous shows in USA and in Belgium.
The paintings of Claire Feng capture the transient delicacy of flowers and fruits. The composition is built as a stage, with light to create a harmonious flow and recurrent forms to create visual echoes. Painting from life, Claire Feng designs each piece of her work as a visual poem. Her work invites the viewer to question time, beauty, and passion, while enjoying the sensuel pleasure of an oil painting. Observing a fleeting beauty and delivering a world of quietness and subtlety, is maybe her best way to calm the demons of the past, full of sound and fury.
